Athetoid dystonia in birth medical negligence claims

Athetoid dystonia in birth occurs as a result of oxygen starvation to the unborn baby and refers to the abnormal muscle tone, posture and movement which a child may suffer as a result.

As a form of cerebral palsy, athetoid dystonia is usually characterised by writhing, involuntary movement especially affecting the hands face and tongue, caused by damage to a small part of the brain called the basal ganglia.

The birth injury can occur from damage to the brain before, during or immediately after delivery, but can also be a result of insufficient oxygen reaching the baby during development. Cerebral palsy can also occur as a result of infection, jaundice and when blood sugar falls to a dangerously low level.

If your child has suffered a birth injury as a result of a mismanaged or negligently handled birth, the experienced medical negligence solicitors at George Ide LLP can help you, where appropriate, commence a civil claim for damages on behalf of your child.

In cases where a child's life has been irrevocably changed as a result of negligence we believe in fighting for the highest level of compensation to ensure they receive the care they deserve for the rest of their life. We have specialist independent case managers on hand to assess and manage all aspects of treatment and/or rehabilitation needs for a claimant and this also enables our birth injury solicitors to negotiate the timely payment of funds for any required therapies, etc.

George Ide's specialist team has helped many victims of birth injury in the Chichester and Bognor Regis area and, as one of the leading personal injury solicitors' firms in the south of England, has represented many people from further afield.

We are committed to being on your side and there to explain every step of the process. Plus, in the event of a substantial damages award George Ide has lawyers available to help protect the financial interest of a claimant by offering full FSA accredited investment advice, trust and deputyship services.
