Probate news – Coronation Street stalwart left estate to friends

09th February 2012

According to reports, the actress, who played the role of characterful barmaid Betty Williams for 42 years on the ITV hit show, left a large chunk of her estate to friends – with her £400,000 apartment inherited by two of her long-time pals.

The probate records detail that the actress made provision with wills solicitors to leave half of the remaining part of her estate to her cousin.

The documents reveal that the actress left an estate worth £987,900, which was reduced to £938 198 after liabilities.

Mancunian by upbringing, Driver was a household name to many television fans and featured in nearly 3,000 episodes of the iconic ITV soap. However, she began her career in another area of show business, initially making her name as a talented singer of popular songs.

The actress was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Millennium New Year’s Honours list and worked until only a few weeks before her death.
