Industrial accident news – One killed and another injured in crane incident

27th June 2012

Both men were helping refurbish Buchanan House in Glasgow, where Network Rail and Transport Scotland have offices, when the accident occurred.

While work was being undertaken the arm of a crane being used at the site collapsed killing one worker who was thrown from a platform, and injuring the other who was operating the machine.

Both men were employed by different companies.

The director of the firm with which the deceased was employed stated, “Our sympathies are extended to the family of our employee…who was killed in the industrial accident on Wednesday afternoon.

“Our sympathies are also extended to the injured crane operator from [the other company concerned]. Our thoughts are with him, his family and work colleagues, and we hope he makes a full recovery from his injuries.”

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is investigating the incident and if the organisation finds that the accident was caused by negligence from one or more of the firms responsible for the crane’s erection or use, then the family of the deceased worker and the man who suffered a head injury may be entitled to receive compensation by making crane accident claims.
