House sale means money for workman who found rare Superman comic

29th May 2013

Well, this is exactly what happened when David Gonzalez, a house renovator from Hoffman in Minnesota, started work on an abandoned house in Elbow Lake which he had bought for just $10,100 (£6,719).

As the father of four started to remove old insulating newspapers from the walls he found a comic book dated June, 1938.

The comic turned out to be an extremely rare No 1 issue of Action Comics featuring their brand new character Superman. It has been valued at $100,000 and is considered by collectors to be the Holy Grail of comic books.

Sadly, the cover of the comic was ripped shortly after it was found, but an offer of $113,111 has already been bid in an online auction which closes on June 11.

House sales solicitors may not hear of this sort of thing every day, but it shows that anything can happen when you walk into your new property.
