Hairpin bend on A9 to have layout changed

18th October 2013

Last Wednesday, ground investigations in the form of drilling took place, so that soil analysis can be undertaken and the physical characteristics used to come up with safe and appropriate changes to the highway layout.

The trunk road is narrow in the problem section, and right next to an 80 metre drop into a valley, which is why these investigations are so important.

The analysis of this part of the A9 will reportedly last three weeks, and the improvements will cost £90,000. Apparently authorities hope to find the ideal road layout for the tight bend by next summer.

Despite being an issue for many drivers, the bend poses the most risk for those in control of HGVs and other long vehicles.

Hopefully the number of road traffic accidents and personal injuries suffered on this piece of highway will decrease once alterations have been made.
