Professional negligence claim news – Divorce lawyer serves defence
The lawyer, who has acted for high profile clients such as Paul McCartney and Madonna, received notice of the professional negligence claim when solicitors representing one of her former clients contacted her this year to inform her of their belief that negligent advice led to their client, a successful banker, unnecessarily paying out £250,000 in child support.
Now the lawyer, who works for Payne Hicks Beach, has instructed another firm to file her defence.
It has been confirmed that the claimant’s professional negligence solicitors are preparing to respond, although it is still to instruct counsel.
According to the banker’s professional negligence claim, by instructing Shackleton, a “leading expert in her field”, he was “entitled to expect the highest standards of skill and care”.
According to reports, the advice cost him close to £100,000 in fees, yet, allegedly, led to him paying £7000 a month, more than 1000% more than a Child Support Agency assessment would have recommended.News
