Child abuse claims mounting against the late Jimmy Savile
As more assault victims come forward with allegations against the TV celebrity and well-known philanthropist, personal abuse solicitors believe that the brave few who initially spoke out about Savile’s behaviour have opened the floodgates for others who have been too traumatised to speak out before.
One lawyer, already planning to act for a number of people, said there could be claims made directly against the government over allegations of abuse which occurred in Broadmoor and other special hospitals for which they had direct responsibility.
On 12 October Scotland Yard stated they had received allegations regarding 40 individuals and there had been formal recordings of 12 specific sexual allegations against Savile. However, they expected this number to increase.
At least 14 police forces are known to be making enquiries into allegations of sexual and child abuse made against Savile and it is believed that more than 340 lines of enquiry are already underway.News
