Seasonal boost hoped for in residential conveyancing firms

20th November 2012

The latest poll conducted by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) revealed that 18% more of its members reported an increase in enquiries rather than a fall. This represents a rise of 13% when compared with the previous month,

A spokesperson for RICS said, “The number of potential buyers going out and viewing property saw a welcome boost last month. It seems that with Christmas around the corner, those who are in a position to buy decided to get out there and see what is available.”

However, he added that the Government-backed NewBuy scheme still needs time to “bed in” before the positive effects will be felt on house sales figures and that first-time buyers are continuing to experience difficulty in seeking out affordable mortgages.

Residential conveyancing solicitors say that, generally, the housing market continues to lack buoyancy and the number of house sales transactions coming to completion per month is still down when compared with figures from recent periods of economic stability.
