House sales solicitors kept busy by “right to buy”
Certain house sales solicitors will have seen a welcome boost to their residential property conveyancing businesses as 3,500 homes have been sold as part of the scheme since last April when the Government increased the discount levels that tenants were entitled to if they bought their home.
The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) reported a surge of right to buy house sales in the last quarter of 2012, with 2,010 such house sales going ahead – representing double the number of the previous three months.
Housing minister Mark Prisk said, “The reinvigorated right to buy has opened the door to home ownership for thousands of tenants across the country.”
House sales solicitors are hopeful that various other government schemes to boost the housing market, such as the mortgage-boosting Funding for Lending scheme and discounted NewBuy homes for first-time buyers, will also see them kept busy in the coming months.News
