X Factor contestant avoids serious back injury
The 19-year-old had been waiting nervously backstage to see whether the judges would put her through to the next round, when she slipped down some stairs and sustained a back injury.
Despite being taken out of the studio in a stretcher by paramedics, and being pictured holding an oxygen mask over her face on the way to the ambulance, her injuries are thought to be relatively minor.
Xtra Factor presenter Caroline Flack stated, “She has actually hurt her back so she has gone to have her back checked. She is absolutely fine. I think she’s going to be ok.”
Thankfully the contestant tweeted later, confirming that she had indeed avoided a serious spinal injury.
She wrote, “out of hospital and thankfully there is no serious damage. Thanks for your lovely messages, im sure will be right as rain in no time xxx”. [sic]
If she had suffered severe injuries, she might have been able to claim compensation from ITV, which hosts the show, if the company could be found liable for the accident.
Potentially the stairs could have been deemed poorly lit, or slippery, or the television company might have been seen as responsible for the contestant wearing unsuitable footwear.News
